Guide to Using Chimney Cleaning Tools
How to measure:
Prior to actual cleaning it is important that the brush is correctly sized so that bristles are in direct contact with the sides of the flue at all times (see illustrations) . Masonry chimney: Measure the inside of the tile in the centre ofboth sides to nearest 1/4".
Pre-Fab Chimney: Measure along the centre axis in two directionof the extreme inside section where the brush would go.
Tools:
Chimney brush (properly fitted to your chimney) .Drop cloth and tape Small broom, bucket, small shovel.Scratch or wire bench brush. Fibreglass extension rod kit or brushloop and non-organic line.
Methods of Cleaning:
The flexible fibreglass rods can be used for bottom-up cleaningthrough fireplace opening, thimble or clean-out door in chimney.They can also be used for top-down cleaning. Line and loop method requires brush, loop and lines with 2people.Line and weight method requires brush line, weight.
